Take Action - Go Greener

Take Action - Go Greener

We're being given plenty of reasons to think ‘green’ at the moment. The Chancellor gave us some in his recent Budget, the Mayor of London has offered a few with his latest congestion charging plans, and manufacturers and technology providers are constantly evolving their products with environmental impact in mind.

It’s fair to say that green is most definitely ‘in’ – and with good reason.

Did you know that…?

  • As of June last year, there were 34.6-million licensed vehicles on Britain’s roads. That’s 0.5 per cent more than in 2011 and an 8.1 per cent rise in registered cars from 2009.
  • In 2012, the average new car produced 133.1 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometre.
  • The latest EU regulations call for a standard new fleet to produce no more than 130 grams per kilometre by 2015.

Purchasing more efficient vehicles is of course one way to help the environment, but there are plenty of other things businesses can do. If the government’s recent change to the capital allowances emissions thresholds wasn't enough to get you dusting off your environmental policy, then perhaps the knowledge of how easy it is to start making a difference will help.

We found that out for ourselves when the team enrolled in the Energy Saving Trust's Smarter Driving training. The program encouraged efficient driving by measuring the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions of our participants as they drove along a given circuit. The end result calculated both the amount of emissions and money on fuel they could save in a year.

Meanwhile, the EST also runs management training, which provides senior team members with advice on how to put this type of ‘smart’ driving into practice. The course covers all the bases relating to minimising a fleet's environmental impact, including information on CO2 emissions, tax, carbon footprints, fuel benefits, alternative fuels and cost & carbon reduction initiatives.

So, what can you do right now to add to your green credentials? Sign yourself up to one of the Energy Saving Trust’s programs here.

We're keen to help our customers learn smarter driving techniques and offer incentives to sharpen your lead. For more information on our services and partnership with Energy Saving Trust, contact: Jonathan.ross@marshall-leasing.co.uk
