Spend Summer in a Convertible

Spend Summer in a Convertible

This has been the driest start to a summer since records began in 1961, with just 47mm of rain on average having fallen so far nationwide so why not invest in a Convertible car to top up your tan and make the most of this endless sunshine?

There are many positives to driving a convertible. The lack of roof gives drivers more visibility, making it easier to manoeuvre and park with a wider radius. This gives the luxury of more headroom to those that are above the average height and don’t want to be confined by a low ceiling. A further benefit of driving a convertible is the lighter weight of the car, which is suggested by McLaren Boss, Mike Flewitt. “If we can drive down weight, you need less fuel, it’s simple maths. A lightweight car is a more efficient car, it’s also a better driver’s car.” This means that by using a convertible, the driver is being eco-friendlier as well as saving money.

Steve Ashdown of Convertible Car Magazine states that “Modern convertible roofs are watertight and offer great insulation and sound deadening for year-round driving”, meaning that us Brits are able to enjoy every last second of sunshine available to us without worrying about how the car will fare in the harsher weather. Ashdown also gives a handy tip of avoiding parking under trees as this may turn the fabric roofs of a convertible green.

A downside to a convertible is the price. With some brands charging an extra £5,000 to £9,000 on average than comparable sedans or coupes it may be an off-putting factor. Yet with the pull of the positives out weighing the negative factors, this may not be an issue to those involved. Additionally, faster aging of the interior can be a negative of a convertible car. Exposing convertible interiors to the hot summer sun takes its toll. Seats, dashboards and other surfaces may become sun damaged and cracked over time, though proper maintenance can slow the process.

Therefore, now is a great time to start driving a convertible car for stylish drivers that want to make the most of the hot weather that is currently happening. Although there may be a few downsides to convertibles, the positive aspects far outweigh the negatives. Many drivers wish to be at the wheel of a convertible, so why not take charge and try it now?
