AFP publishes EV ‘mythbusters’ document

AFP publishes EV ‘mythbusters’ document

The electric vehicle (EV) committee for The Association of Fleet Professionals (AFP) has published a new ‘mythbusters’ document designed to break company car driver misconceptions about electric vehicles (EVs).

The document, which is now available on the AFP website for members to download, provides clarity around paying for a charge point, grid capacity, clean air zone charges and EV safety.

Chair of the AFP Paul Hollick said, “EVs are being introduced apace in many organisations and fleet managers are finding that potential drivers have a lot of questions about them, some of which they can easily answer and some of which require a little more thought.

“The new guide is designed for drivers and fleet managers who find themselves in this position. We’ve gathered information from across the AFP about the most common questions that are being asked and our EV committee has produced concise but informative responses that should satisfy most drivers.

“As with any emerging technology moving into the mainstream, there are many misconceptions around EVs and part of the process of electrifying any fleet will be helping drivers to understand how these vehicles work and the kinds of differences that exist when compared to the petrol and diesel cars that they have been using for years.”

This has been created in addition to the AFP’s new four-hour EV course, Making the Switch to EVs, which will be held online for the first time at 10am on March 16 2021.

The course consists of five modules:

  • Market overview
  • Evaluation of your current fleet and its potential to electrify
  • Analysing the cost and C02 savings of making the switch
  • Your transition and bringing the analysis to life
  • Operation and moving EVs into business-as-usual

The cost is £225 for AFP and ICFM members and £295 for non-members. To request more information about the EV guide or course, you can get in touch with the AFP administration Hub by emailing administration@theafp.co.uk.
