EV uptake in the North of England has more than doubled
20 June 2022
The latest data from the Department for Transport (DfT) shows that electric vehicle uptake in the North of England has more than doubled since 2020, with EV registrations in the region reaching 74,677 in 2021.
Throughout the UK, there are now more than a quarter of a million electric vehicles on the roads and there was a 77 per cent rise in new plug-in vehicles registered in 2021 (327,000).
Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said, “The UK continues to be a global front-runner in the switch to electric vehicles – helping drivers to save money on fuel while moving towards our net zero targets.”
The Transport Secretary recently confirmed a £500 million funding package to ‘transform’ local on-street charging facilities throughout the UK in pursuit of the government’s aim to reach 300,000 public EV chargepoints.
A recent study by electric car website Electrifying.com, found a major disparity in price between the use of public charging infrastructure (around £91.75 a month) and off-street charging (around £13.75) over the same time period.
