How to get support with installing EV chargers at home or in the workplace

How to get support with installing EV chargers at home or in the workplace

The Electric Vehicle Homecharging Scheme (EVHS) provided by the Office for Low Emissions Vehicles (OLEV) had been used to support the installation of 189,815 domestic charging points as of October 2021.

The scheme allows people to reduce the cost of installing a home EV charging point by up to 75 per cent. However, the scheme is due to expire on March 31 2022.

Our partners PodPoint, the UK’s leading provider of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles, say that it is possible to save around £1,000 per year by using a home charging point rather than public charging facilities.

If you have recently purchased an eligible electric or plug-in vehicle or leased one for the past 6 months or longer, you could potentially claim up to £350 off the cost of installing a new charge point at your home with PodPoint.

Am I eligible to use The Electric Vehicle Homecharging Scheme?

In addition to owning or leasing an eligible vehicle which emits CO2 emissions below 50g/km, you must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for support from the EVHS.

  • You must have off-street parking.
  • You must install an OLEV-approved charge point.
  • You must use an OLEV-approved charge point installer.
  • You must have your installation completed by 31 March 2022.

You can claim one charge point per eligible vehicle you own or lease, up to two eligible vehicles per household.

The Workplace Charging Scheme (WCS)

In addition to the EVHS, OLEV is also providing support for businesses, charities and public authorities to install EV chargers in the workplace.

Similarly to the EVHS, the WCS provides up to 75 per cent (£350) off the cost of purchasing and installing up to 40 single-socket charge points, or 20 double socket charge points.

To qualify, you must:

  • Have sufficient off-street parking.
  • Express an existing or future need to adopt electric vehicles as part of your fleet.
  • Have the charging station installed by an OZEV-approved workplace charging station installer.

You can find out more about how to apply for the WCS here.

Electric vehicle leasing with Marshall Leasing

According to data from the Society of Motoring Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), 2021 was ‘the most successful year in history for electric vehicle uptake’.

As part of its roadmap to ending the sale of new diesel cars and vans by 2030 and hybrid cars and vans by 2035, the government has promised to keeping benefit-in-kind (BIK) tax rates low for fleet and company cars until March 2025. BIK rates for purely electric vehicles (EVs) have been set at 2% for the tax year, 2022/23, and will remain at this rate for the following two tax years (2023/24 and 2024/25).

Adding to this, zero emission cars will also continue to be exempt from vehicle excise duty (VED) until March 2025 – although this date could potentially be extended even further.

Considering all of the above, there has never been a better time to join the electric revolution. Our team of dedicated experts would be delighted to discuss how we could help you add an electric vehicle to your fleet.
