A new mobile recharging service aims to tackle EV range anxiety

A new roadside assistance policy extended as an insurance product aims to tackle the issue of ‘range anxiety’ and will be made available through the newly developed Recharge Rescue.

In the event of losing power, electric vehicle (EV) drivers covered by the new policy can call an emergency number for assistance 24/7, at which point a van featuring a 7.2kW EV ‘fast charging’ unit will be dispatched to their location with a target ETA of 90 minutes. A further 30 minutes is required to charge the stranded vehicle, providing between 10-15 miles range for most EVs.

The policy developed by Vehicle Help Limited will be available to fleets directly or on a B2B basis through its network of partners. The solution will also be available to private owners of electric vehicles.

Bruce Compton, managing director AFF Holdings which developed the mobile recharging service said, “It’s fantastic to be able to support such a helpful and relevant insurance product as Recharge Rescue. Never has there been a time before where people have required more reassurance to be able to transition into an electric vehicle and we are delighted to be playing a small part in helping to encourage this change.”
