30 per cent rise in dash cam video reports sent to police
11 March 2024
Data from the National Dash Cam Safety Portal (NDCSP), set up and operated by dash cam company Nextbase, reveals a 30 per cent rise in the number of video reports sent to police forces across the UK.
There was a total of 33,531 videos submitted in 2023, 70 per cent of which resulted in further action taken by the police. The highest numbers of these video submissions were processed in the West Midlands, West Murcia, Northumberland, Warwickshire, and South Yorkshire.
Dangerous driving spiked over the summer of 2023. The month of June was the busiest with the most submissions, closely followed by May and July.
Lucy Straker, Campaigns Manager at Brake, the road safety charity commented, “Today five people will be killed on our roads. And tomorrow, another five won’t make it home to their families. And so on, and so on, until we say ‘Enough!’ and start taking responsibility for each other’s safety on the road.
“Initiatives like this, that aim to encourage safer driving and support the work of the police in tackling dangerous driving, are very welcome.”
