Road Safety Week: Safe Vehicles Safe Lives

Brake’s Road Safety Week take place between 16th and 22nd November 2025, with the theme of ‘Safe Vehicles Safe Lives’.

The annual national campaign run by road safety charity Brake aims to raise awareness of the impact of road death and injury and push for the introduction of legal measures to make roads safer.

On UK roads, 1,700 people are killed and a further 30,000 receive serious, life-changing injuries.

The week begins on the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims (Sunday November 16 2025) and this year, Brake is focusing on the importance of safe vehicles with features such as automated driver assistance systems to minimise harm if they are involved in an accident. It has called on the UK government for life-saving technology to be mandated for all new vehicles in the UK, in line with the vehicle General Safety Regulations that have been recently introduced in Europe.

In addition to hosting a webinar for employers and emergency services, the charity will also be raising awareness of how to make sure vehicles are roadworthy by providing free resources. These include stakeholder toolkits, videos and infographics to share and facts about safe vehicles, including how to carry out roadside checks.

Each year, thousands of schools, organisations, emergency services, campaigners and communities show their support by taking part in Road Safety Week. If you would like to get involved, you can discover more here.

Brake’s chief executive Ross Moorlock said, “This year’s theme is a fantastic opportunity to learn more about evidence-based systems that are proven to reduce road death and injury and explore how together we can make real change. I encourage everyone to sign up and support this important campaign.”
